"Privacy is all about how do I manage personal information across its life cycle in a way that's responsible. When I think about AI, I'm now ingesting not just personal information, but other data as well, to be able to inform and train the models. But if I make the wrong decisions on the privacy side, I'm going to put the wrong data in my AI models," Rege said. "Data governance is the umbrella - all the governing policies that I might have in my organization."

Legislations such as California's privacy laws and Europe's GDPR have shifted the paradigm of data ownership from companies to consumers, necessitating transparent data management practices and fostering trust between organizations and their clients, according to Rege.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the Cybersecurity Implications of AI Summit, Rege also discussed:

  • The challenge of data permanence in AI models;
  • The need to input accurate data to inform AI models correctly;
  • Implementing proactive measures than reactive responses for ethical data management.

He has leadership experience of more than 30 years across companies such as MobileIron, Yahoo!, Sybase and Oracle. Rege's expertise includes GTM strategy, mobility, security, privacy, and product management.
