Roger Grimes

Data-Driven Defense Evangelist, KnowBe4

Roger A. Grimes is a Data-Driven Defense Evangelist at KnowBe4. He is a 35-year plus computer security professional, author of 14 books and over 1,400 national magazine articles. He frequently consults with the world’s largest and smallest companies, and militaries, and he has seen what does and doesn’t work.

Grimes was previously a weekly security columnist for InfoWorld and CSO magazines from 2005–2019. He regularly presents at national computer security conferences, and has been interviewed by national magazines and radio shows, including Newsweek magazine and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Roger is known for his often contrarian, fact-filled viewpoints.

He has worked closely with Fortune 100 and other companies and industry partners to gain the benefits of managed PKI as a Service by reducing complexity and cost while improving security and performance.

Prior to his current role with HID Global, Scott was Vice President of Solutions with HydrantID, a managed PKI service provider which was acquired by HID in 2019. His role included the design and launch of secure vault-based Offline Root Key Generation services which are used by industry leaders in multiple verticals, and the Dedicated Issuing CA product that is a widely used Microsoft CA replacement service.

Scott previously held the position of Lead Architect for Identity at Verizon Enterprise Solutions, where he led the design and development of the Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) Gateway cloud service. The service platform is used by CVS, Express Scripts and other major pharmacies to sign and validate millions of PKI-based transactions daily. Prior joining Verizon, Scott held similar positions at SAIC, Arcot Systems, BeTrusted and Digital Signature Trust (purchased by IdenTrust in 2002).
